JEE Main, also known as Joint Entrance Exam, is the initial section of the IIT Joint Entrance Exam. Students who wish to enroll in undergraduate programs at prestigious engineering institutes in India, such as IITs and NITs, must take this computer-based online exam, which is administered by the National Testing Agency. As a result, a student’s admission to IITs, CFTIS, NITS, and other government-funded technical institutes is decided by their JEE Main scores. The highest NTA score is taken into consideration by the exam administering authorities when generating the ranks/merit list. Candidates can also decide whether to take all of the tests or only one. The JEE Main exam format changes had already been notified by the NTA. Section B of the JEE Mains exam will now only contain five questions per subject, and candidates will not have the option to choose how they respond to these questions. This is in accordance with the revised exam pattern.
Latest Update About JEE Main 2025:
The National Testing Agency has announced the exam dates for Sessions 1 and 2. According to the schedule, the first session of the JEE Mains exams will be held from January 22 to January 31, 2025, while the second session will be held from April 1 to April 8, 2025. Additionally, the NTA has made the JEE Main Application form 2025 for session 1 online.
JEE MAIN Exam 2025 Schedule:

What is JEE Main Exam?
The full name of JEE Main exam is Joint Entrance Examination (Main). This exam is required for admission to B. Tech, B. Arch, and B. Plan programs at NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs, as well as institutions and universities funded or recognized by participating State Governments. The JEE Main test is taken to get admission to IITs and is used to determine eligibility for JEE Advanced.
Several Indian states have uniformed and administered the JEE Main test. The test is given at the undergraduate level to gain admission to some of the best engineering and technical schools, both privately owned and supported by the government.
Usually, This exam is administered to three categories of candidates:
- Students who want to enroll in B.E. or B. Tech. programs should read Paper 1.
- Students who want to enroll in a B. Arch. course should complete Paper 2A.
- Students who want to enroll in a B. Planning course should complete Paper 2B.
- A January and an April total two session will be held for the JEE exam.
Who Conduct the JEE Main Exam in 2025?
Since 2019, the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, has given authority to the responsibility of handling the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) to the National Testing Agency (NTA).
There are two parts to the Joint Entrance Examination (Main). Admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B. Tech.) at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and other government-sponsored or state-recognized Central Technical Institutions (CFTIS) is determined by the results of Section 1.
Additionally, it serves as a prerequisite for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), which candidates for IITs must take. Additionally, admission to the nation’s Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch) and Bachelor of Planning (B. Plan) programs is determined by the results of Section 2 of the JEE (Main).
Eligibility Criteria For JEE Main Exam 2025

The primary eligibility requirements for JEE admission to institutions include factors pertaining to the candidate’s nationality, class 12 grade percentage, and year of passing the qualifying test or class 12. To be admitted to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, each JEE Main 2025 candidate must meet the qualifying requirements listed by NTA. There are two primary JEE eligibility requirements:
The primary requirements for JEE 2025 eligibility are age restrictions, qualifying exam requirements, qualifying exam subjects, number of attempts, and qualifying exam passing year.
Eligibility required to participate in the JEE MAIN 2025 exam:
- Candidates are allowed to take the test for a maximum of three consecutive years.
- For candidates who want to take the test, there is no upper age limit.
- To take the test, there is no minimum passing percentage. Nonetheless, the candidates need to complete their Class 12 board exams or other comparable tests.
- In the qualifying exam, the candidate must have received 50% of the possible points in math, physics, and chemistry, as well as 50% overall for paper 2 and 3.
- Candidates wishing to enroll in B.Arch. or B.Planning programs must be proficient in mathematics.
How to apply for JEE Main Exam 2025?
The steps for the registration and counseling processes are detailed in the section below. Students who are interested in applying for JEE Main should attentively understand the entire procedure.
Step 1: Fill out the registration form
To register online, applicants must go to the official website.
The applicant must complete out the online application form with the necessary information, create a password, select a security question, and enter their response.
An application number will be generated following the successful submission of the personal information. This number will be used for all future correspondence and reference as well as to complete the remaining steps of the application form.
For both JEE (Main)-2025 sessions, the generated application number will be used or referred to. The candidate will be able to log in directly for any further logins using the application number and password that were generated by the system.
Step 2 Fill out the application:
To complete the application form, which includes filling out personal information, applying for the paper, selecting the cities for the examination, and supplying information about their educational background, candidates can log in using the application number and password that the system generates.
Step 3 Documents Uploading:
Applicants must upload the necessary files and photos in the appropriate format.
Upload scanned copies of the candidate’s signature, class X certificate, or equivalent marks sheet, and, if relevant, PwD or PwBD certificate.
The most current passport-size photo should be colored, with 80% of the face—including the ears—visible without a mask against a white backdrop. The photo should be titled ‘Photograph’ and be between 10 and 300 kb in size, in the easily readable JPG/JPEG format.
It is recommended that the signature file be named ‘Signature’ and be between 10 and 50 kb in size, in the easily readable JPG/JPEG format.
A Class X or equivalent certificate or marks sheet scan should be called “Class-X Certificate” and be a PDF file that is between 10 and 300 kb and readily readable.
The scanned copy of the PwD/PwBD certificate should be named “Disability Certificate” and should be a legible PDF file between 10 and 300 kb.
Note: -As there will be no chance for revisions in the future, only the candidate’s own photo, signature, and certificate or certificates as specified above (and no one else’s) must be uploaded accurately and appropriately.
Step 4: Registration Fee Payment
Upon completion of Steps 1, 2, and 3, participants are required to pay the necessary examination fees. The only ways to pay the fees online are through Net Banking, credit cards, debit cards, and UPI.
Candidates will be charged processing costs and GST, if applicable, by the relevant bank or payment gateway integrator in addition to the exam fees.
After a successful payment, the applicant can print the Confirmation Page. If, after paying the fee, the Confirmation Page is not generated, the transaction is canceled and candidates must get in touch with the appropriate bank to request a refund.
The candidate will have to make another payment or transaction if the Confirmation Page is not generated.
Important Instruction:
Candidates may only apply in the “Online” method for JEE (Main)-2025 Session 1 via the following website: https://jeemain.nta.nic.in/ Any other form of application will not be accepted.
Candidates are only required to submit one application. Candidates will never be permitted to fill out more than one application form. Even if an applicant fills out more than one application form, they will still face strict consequences.
The guidelines provided in the Information Bulletin and on the NTA website must be closely adhered to by candidates. Candidates that do not follow the guidelines will be immediately eliminated.
Since NTA will only provide information and communications via email to the registered email address or SMS to the registered mobile number, candidates must make sure that the email address and mobile number they submit on the online application form belong to them or to their parents/guardians.
A candidate may submit an application and pay the required exam cost for Session 1 (January 2025). Candidates will have the chance to apply individually for Session-2 (April 2025) using the same application number and pay the cost; a separate notification will be sent out for this purpose.
Candidates can log in and pay the Examination Fee for Session 2 during that time if they want to apply for Session 2 (April 2025). The candidate can register later, once the application form for Session-2 (April 2025) is available, if he only wants to apply for that session.
Session 2’s application window will reopen in accordance with the information in the Information Bulletin, and a separate Public Notice will be sent out to inform everyone.
JEE MAIN Counselling
Online counseling shall be offered to JEE Main candidates by JoSAA. Applicants must complete the choice-filling process and register on the JoSAA portal in order to apply for admission to participating universities. JoSAA distributes seats according to a variety of factors, such as the candidate’s preferences, rank, and available seats. The counseling process consists of six rounds, including two practice sessions. In the JEE Main counseling procedure, the following phases are involved:
Registration Process:
Applicants must use their JEE Main roll number and password to log in. Applicants for JEE Advanced should log in with their matching password and supply the necessary basic information.
Filling in the Choice:
Applicants must choose their desired courses and institutions in order of preference after registering.
Choice Locking:
Applicants must carefully study their selections before locking them in place. No changes can be made once it has been locked. A printout of the locked choices must be taken.
