What is CLAT Exam?
The Consortium of nationwide Legal Universities (NLUs) administers a nationwide legal entrance exam known as the Common Law Admission Test, or CLAT. Admission to one-year LLM (PG) and five-year integrated LLB (UG) programs is made easier. NLUs use exam results to determine admission to 21 graduate programs and 24 undergraduate programs. Undergraduate programs’ offline, pen-and-paper exam will include a variety of topics, including English, current events, general knowledge, logical thinking, legal reasoning, and quantitative approaches. The postgraduate degree exam covers constitutional law as well as torts, jurisprudence, family law, intellectual property rights (IPR), IPC, CrPC, and CPC.
Syllabus & Exam Pattern
Evaluating applicants’ thinking and comprehension skills is the main goal of the UG-CLAT 2025. The test’s overall goal is to evaluate the aptitude and abilities necessary for a legal education, not past knowledge, even though it may occasionally be useful in answering questions in the Current Affairs and General Information sections.
The two-hour UG test will consist of 120 multiple-choice questions, each earning one mark. A deduction of 0.25 marks will be applied for each incorrect response. These inquiries would cover the following five topics:

CLAT Exam 2025 Eligibility Criteria
- The UG Program has no upper age limit for applicants.
- Candidates who scored at least 45 percent (45%) of the possible points, or the grade equivalent, on their 10+2 or comparable test
- 40% of the total score, or its equivalent, will go to candidates who fall into the SC, ST, or PwD categories.
- You can also apply if you are taking the qualifying exam in March or April of 2025.
- However, when they seek for admission, they will not be given the opportunity to be admitted unless they can demonstrate that they passed the qualifying exam.
- The candidate will not be permitted to enroll in the course for which they have applied if they do not show the results of the qualifying exam (10+2) at the time of admission.
- If many candidates earn the same number of exam points, ties will be eliminated using the following procedure and sequence:
better scores in the Legal Aptitude part or component of the test; older age; automated selection.
General Instructions:
- The test will be administered offline.
Online applications can only be made through the consortiumofnlus.ac.in website. - For qualifying candidates in the PWD category, the exam is set for December 1, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (subject to modify if necessary) and from 2:00 to 4:40 p.m.
- The CLAT cannot be taken by foreign nationals.
- The candidate can learn more about each of the 24 NLUs by using the e-brochure that is available on the Consortium website.
- Applicants interested in learning more about NRI/NRI Sponsored/Foreign National seats are advised to visit the websites and e-brochures of the respective NLUs. For NLUs where the NRI category is admitted based on rankings rather than directly by the relevant universities, all applicants are required to take the exam.
- Please be aware that you must apply directly to the relevant NLU and pass the CLAT exam in order to be admitted in these categories. For further information, please visit the NLU website.
- In addition to the cost structures of the various participating NLUs, the Information Brochure, which can be accessed from the official CLAT website and the websites of the participating NLUs, includes details about the admissions process, reservation procedures, and courses offered.
- Therefore, candidates are encouraged to carefully check the rules, policies, and fee schedule of the participating NLUs before filling out the application form for UG courses, as well as for the NRI and Foreign National seats.
CLAT Application Process 2025
Step 1- Registration Process:
- Online registration for CLAT 2025 will open on July 15, 2024, and run through October 15, 2024.
- The filled-out application and the required costs must be turned in by October 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
- Candidates must first create an account on the website with their personal mobile number and email address.
- Following registration, the registered mobile number will receive an OTP for verification. Once the mobile number has been validated, candidates can log in using the registered mobile phone and the password they gave at registration.
- Applications that are not comprehensive will not be considered. Candidates should fill out and submit the application form well in advance to avoid issues at the last minute. In any case, neither the CLAT Office nor the hosting university will be held responsible for any inconvenience or incomplete information the candidate may encounter in this respect.
Step 2- Application Completion:
Please complete the form correctly. The candidate’s and parents’ names must be spelled correctly on the application as they appear on the identity documents, mark sheets, and certificates. If a modification is found, the applicant may be disqualified.
Please be advised that once the application has been submitted and paid for, the candidate cannot change the program, category, or BPL field. Modifications to the application form will not be accepted after the closing date.
Step 3- Documents Uploading:
If an applicant has filled out multiple online applications, only the most recent one will be considered. In these cases, there will be no reimbursement of the application money for the previous application forms.
Documents that need to be submitted online with the application:
- A recent, plain-background, passport-sized front-facing photo
- The signature of the candidate
- Certificate of category for applications made under the SC, ST, or OBC categories
- A pertinent certificate from an authorized organization is necessary if the applicant is P.W.D.
- Relevant certification from a recognized organization if you are a BPL.
NOTE:
- The original certificates and documentation provided by the relevant agencies as mentioned in the brochure, in the format and style specified by the particular university, must be given to the selected university at the time of admission.
- The candidate’s signature and photo do not need to be attested when submitting the online application.
- All documents and certifications must be uploaded in PDF format only.
Step 4- Pay the Application Fee:
- The only way to pay the application fees is online.
- General, OBC, and NRI applicants are required to pay an application fee of INR 4,000.
- The application fee for candidates in the SC, ST, BPL, and PWD categories is INR 3,500.
- The INR 4,000 or INR 3,500 application fee for CLAT 2025, depending on the circumstances, does not cover the INR 500 cost of previous years’ question papers.
- Candidates will be responsible for paying the bank costs associated with online fee submission activities.
- The payment gateway page will display the actual bank transaction fees once candidates have chosen a payment method.
- There is no refund for the application fee.
CLAT Admit Card 2025
The candidate can download the hall pass or admit card by signing into their account. The exact day that the hall tickets will be available will be announced on the website.
CLAT Result 2025
The results have been released by the Consortium of NLUs. On the official website, the CLAT result is currently accessible. It should be noted by candidates that the final answer key has been used to prepare the results. Following an examination of the candidates’ complaints, the final answer key was made public. CLAT Admission & Counselling Process 2025
These instructions will help you navigate the admissions counseling process for admission to National Law Universities (“NLUs”) that are taking the Common Law Admission Test 2025 for admission to the five-year integrated Undergraduate (“UG”) and Postgraduate (“PG”) programs starting in the Academic Year 2025-2026.
Please take the actions listed below in order to successfully and actively participate in the admissions counseling process:
Step 2 – Registration in the Admissions Counseling Procedure
- According to each NLU’s admissions matrix and rank list, qualified candidates will be invited to take part in the admissions counseling process.
- Those that qualify will get an SMS at their registered mobile number, an invitation on their CLAT site, and an email invitation to take part in the Admissions Counseling Process sent to their registered email address.
STEP 3: Counselling Registration Fee Payment
- Click the “Make Payment” button after completing the counseling registration fee payment. This button will only appear if you have been chosen for the admissions counseling process.
- As stated below, pay the counseling registration fee by 10:00 PM on December 20, 2024:
- Candidates in the general category must pay Rs. 30,000 (only Rs. 30,000).
- It is necessary for candidates who fall under the ST, SC, OBC, BC, EWS, or PWD categories to pay Rs. 20,000 (Rupees Twenty Thousand only).
Await the “Payment Successful” notification; - Payments can only be done online after using the Consortium website to log into the CLAT portal.
STEP 4: Update you Choices of courses and colleges
- Open your CLAT account and log in. A “Update NLU Preferences” button will appear if you have received a counseling invitation. To make the necessary changes to your NLU Preferences, click that icon.
- Candidates are asked to carefully consider their preferences and study the various programs and seat matrix by looking through the NLU brochures that are available on the Participating Universities page.
- Candidates must list at least 15 preferences. You can also provide other preferences.
Step 5: College Reporting
- Students must freeze counseling and report to the designated college if they are happy with the seat they were given during the counseling session.
- All applicants who chose the Freeze option during the first, second, third, fourth, or fifth round of counseling must pay the remaining university fees as directed within the allotted time in the admissions counseling, after deducting the counseling registration fee and any confirmation fees that have already been paid.
